We were a cause long before we were a company.
SurgeonCheck was born from Dr. Marc Granson’s lifelong passion for ensuring access to quality surgical care for his community. As a surgeon with 33 years of experience, including 22 years as a Chairman of Surgery, he is acutely aware that not all surgeons are equal, despite their best intentions. It never sat well with Dr. Granson that patients were asked to have blind faith when choosing a surgeon. He has always believed every patient deserves objective information to identify the best surgeon for their procedure. Yet, the lack of transparent information forced traditional recommendations (including those from primary care doctors) to be based on relationships, network status, and bedside manner.
Dr. Granson’s dedication to transparency of surgeon quality became deeply personal after losing a close friend to colon cancer – a largely preventable disease – due to a surgeon’s oversight of cancerous polyps during a routine screening colonoscopy. Despite his friend’s diligence in following preventive measures, one choice – selecting the wrong surgeon – led to a devastating outcome. This tragedy highlighted the critical need for objective information on surgical quality, and was the fuel to turn Dr. Granson’s passion into action. He made it his mission to prevent similar tragedies and founded SurgeonCheck.
Our healthcare system needs a transparency revolution, and SurgeonCheck is leading the charge. By providing patients with data-driven insights, we enable informed decisions and better outcomes.
“No one should fly blind when making one of the highest stake decisions in their
|lives – the choice of their surgeon. We developed SurgeonCheck because we
believe everyone deserves better insight, better choice, better care”.

Founder & Chief Quality Officer
Dr. Granson is the founder and Chief Quality Officer of SurgeonCheck. Previously, he was a practicing vascular surgeon for 33 years and the founding member of a 45-person, multi-specialty group practice, which included vascular surgeons, radiologists, and cardiologists.
Dr. Granson’s practice was the first in the nation to combine interventional radiology and vascular surgery to focus on best serving patients rather than competing financially. He served as Chairman of Surgery for Muhlenberg Hospital from 1990 to 1999 and for St. Luke’s University Health Network from 2003 to 2016. In late 2016, Dr. Granson stepped down as Chairman of Surgery to dedicate all his energy to SurgeonCheck.
He earned a B.S. from Indiana University, where he played on the freshman basketball team, and earned an M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Granson completed his general surgery residency at the University of Southern California and his fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the advisory council for Bloom, a non-profit organization that offers sanctuary and a continuum of care to heal, empower and employ women survivors of sex trafficking in the Lehigh Valley.
When Dr. Granson isn’t pursuing his mission to bring transparency to surgical quality, you can find him golfing, water skiing, biking, watching college basketball and lacrosse, or spending time with his eight grandchildren.
